| This is a ring of eight bells in E flat.
The two trebles were added in 1956 in memory of
Rear Admiral and Mrs C.H. Simpson the gift of their family.
At the same time all the bells were re-hung in a steel cage. Both the 5 and the 6 are of pre-Reformation date. The 5 bears the following inscription 'IN MULTIS ANNIS RESONET CAMPANA JOHANNIS JOHES FROST ALIAS THORN'
This may be translated
'While many years roll by
Let John's bell cry
John Frost or Thorn' 'ORA MENTE PIA PRO NOBIS VIRGO MARIA AMEN'
translated 'by thy gracious interceding Virgin Mary make our pleading, Amen' | |
